The plot and actions of Manhunt 1 are not continued in Manhunt 2. Instead, the same gameplay elements are applied to a different setting—the Dixmor Insane Asylum—where staff members choose to abuse patients and do experiments on them rather than provide them with medical care. One day, a power outage gives the patients the opportunity to mutiny and wreck havoc inside the asylum. The player has the opportunity to take over the roles of Leo Kasper and Dr. Daniel Lamb. Although the action begins inside the asylum, it soon shifts to other places.
Although stealth plays a big role in the game, more traditional third-person shooting elements are introduced in later levels. To be successful in gunplay, one must make considerable use of cover, maneuvers, and sometimes stealth. There’s a radar system, different adversaries have varying levels of awareness, and sneaking up on them is a bad idea. Players can use the USB headset to create noises and throw objects at adversaries, drawing them away from their allies. It’s a fast little game, but it’s necessary if you want to hide in the dark. If it’s not done on time, the character’s whereabouts will be exposed immediately.
