Video game developer High Voltage Software and Lego Media released a racing game called Lego Racers, which is based on the popular Lego toy line.
In Lego Racers, you take part in high-octane races from a bird’s-eye view. The game takes place in a fictional version of Legoland and features Rocket Racer, the “best racing champion” in Legoland. When he becomes tired of always coming out on top in races, he organises a competition and, with the help of his companion, the genius scientist and mechanic Veronica Voltage, tracks down the greatest racers in Legoland’s history.
In order to beat Rocket Racer and earn the title of “Greatest Lego Racer of All Time,” the player competes in a series of races against the show’s hosts and other players. There are four courses in each circuit, and the player, the host, and four other racers are all competing against each other. It is hosted by Captain Redbeard, King Kahuka, Basil the Batlord, Johnny Thunder, Baron Von Barron, and Gypsy Moth. There are a total of 12 distinct tracks in these circuits; the final three circuits are simply the first three circuits with the tracks switched around.
Players use Lego vehicles to race against other Legoland minifigures on various tracks. A “Turbo Start” lets the player start each race at full speed. Power slides and “Super Slides” allow the player’s automobile to turn sharper during races.
