How Gaming Graphics Have Improved in the Last Decade

Published on September 2, 2021 by admin

Video game graphics have improved tremendously just in the last ten years. If you go even further back in time to the SNES era, the visuals are in a whole different world. Today let’s look at the history of gaming and how graphics have improved over time.

Naturally, advancements in technology and game engines have fueled the improvement in graphics. Also, as new systems are released, they allow developers to accomplish more. The PS4 allowed for a lot more than the PS3. With the next generation out, it’s exciting to wonder how games will change in the next few years.

One place where you can really see the difference in graphics is in remasters. For example, take a look at Call of Duty Modern Warfare remastered and compare it to the original that came out in 2007. It’s pretty easy to see the vast improvements in textures, characters, facial features, environments, everything, really. Since it’s the same game, the comparison is simple to make.

It’s not simply console games that have made significant improvements. Other kinds of gaming, particularly online casino games, and slots, have also benefited from technological advancements. Gamers can find these games at places like sportweddenschappen bet777.

From the PS1 Generation to Today

3-D gaming first became a possibility with the PS1 and Nintendo Game Cube generation. While these games were in 3-D, it was mostly polygons and shapes with little detail. Still, for the time, it was revolutionary. Just consider that games only a year before were 2-D side scrollers for the most part. Take a look at some of the best PS1 games.

When the PS2 and XBOX came out, games got an even bigger upgrade. With GTA III, we also got one of the very first open-world, 3-D games which showed us just what was possible for the future. Advancements were happening in all areas. Storytelling, voice acting, and complexity were all well above what they used to be.

The PS3 and XBOX 360 era brought us HD graphics for the first time. It was a massive jump from before, and gamers were stunned with what was now possible. This was our first look at what could be considered higher-end graphics.

Compared to what we have now, though, even the PS3 and 360 aren’t as impressive as they once were. Visuals have gotten to the point now where they’re quite realistic. The question is, where do we go from here?

Have Graphical Improvements Begun to Slow Down?

It’s certainly looking like graphics are beginning to plateau. Consider the leaps from previous generations. PS1 to PS2 to PS3 all had major, very noticeable improvements on their predecessors.

When we compare the current games with those from a few years ago, the differences aren’t quite as noticeable anymore. Considering things have reached a reasonably high level at this point, it might take some significant technological breakthroughs to push it to the next level.

Conclusion

What’s the next step for graphics? Will we see hyper-realistic games one day? We think at some point it’ll be inevitable. Games could look no different from movies. However, this might still be a little off from now. Looking back, though, it’s undeniable how far things have come, even in just the last decade.
